What’s Local This Week

This week the cucumbers, beets and spinach are all locally sourced from within BC!

This Week on The Farm

Growing Opportunities is a wonderful team of urban farmers and volunteers dedicated to sharing agricultural skills, growing good food and supporting Nanaimo’s food system. They support the Good Food Box program by providing as much of our produce as possible through the year at discounted rates.

This week the farm has been bursting with new life! One of the resident farm goats had twins, the nest of killdeer eggs has started hatching in our herb plot, and so many seedlings have begun to take root in our fields.

At Five Acres Farm, we have started farmer’s markets and plant sales on Saturdays from 10-2, and the community is welcome to check out our production spaces and bring their gardening questions! Volunteers welcomed.

Transplanting continues, and as the temperature warms, we’ve started putting tomatoes and peppers into the beds. Cucumbers and squash seedlings won’t be far behind!
