This Week on the Farm!
Growing Opportunities is a wonderful team of urban farmers and volunteers dedicated to sharing agricultural skills, growing good food and supporting Nanaimo’s food system. They support the Good Food Box program by providing as much of our produce as possible through the year at discounted rates.
“This week we added over 500ft of bed space to the fields at The Cline Agri-Health Centre. These new beds will be used for squash this year because it’s a great crop for smothering weeds in newly cultivated ground. We now have tomatoes, eggplants and peppers growing in the greenhouses at VIU and expect to start transplanting kale, broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower in just a few weeks. We also had the chance to give back to the Rotary Club of Nanaimo, helping set up their book sale at the North Town Centre!”
