What’s Local This Week

This week in The Good Food Box, the Kale is from here in Nanaimo and the tomatoes and cucumbers are from BC.

This Week on The Farm

Growing Opportunities is a wonderful team of urban farmers and volunteers dedicated to sharing agricultural skills, growing good food and supporting Nanaimo’s food system. They support the Good Food Box program by providing as much of our produce as possible through the year at discounted rates.

This week the windstorm brought excitement to the farms as a tree fell, blocking vehicles in for the day. We worked to pin down row cover but did lose several beds to opportunistic geese.
Thursday brought F2SBC Spring Celebration field trips to the Five Acres Farm. Over 80 students rotated between hands-on activities. They learned about the soil, pollinator plants, how to plant seeds and, of course, sampled some local food!
