What’s Local

This week in the Good Food Box, the beets are locally sourced from within BC and the kale is fresh from the farm!

This Week On The Farm

Growing Opportunities is a wonderful team of urban farmers and volunteers dedicated to sharing agricultural skills, growing good food and supporting Nanaimo’s food system. They support the Good Food Box program by providing as much of our produce as possible through the year at discounted rates.

This week we welcomed a new intake of Foodshare Homegrown program and they got to work right away picking and packing kale for the Good Food Box. We transplanted onions, a new crop for us! Green onions, red onions and sweet onions are all growing in the field now. The Canada geese have returned and taken a liking to our young cabbage, kale and broccoli seedlings so we spent a major chunk of time covering beds with floating row cover to protect the remaining crops.
